Drinks in the sun Gothenburg

The sun’s out, you’re in Gothenburg city centre and thinking, “where can I go for a drink, sit outside and enjoy the lovely weather?” Good question. Fortunately, many bars and restaurants in Gothenburg open outdoor seating areas for the spring and summer seasons – there are plenty of options! So let’s get you to that sunny outside table for a glass of your preferred warm-weather drink.

Sunny Rosenlund

Along Rosenlundgatan, you’ll find some enormous, over-sized deck chairs by the canal – and for good reason. It’s a street that basically basks in the sun all day. As well as the giant deck chairs, there’s a variety of restaurants and bars to be found here too:

Boca Boca and Market share a nice outdoor space and will often be playing some great summer beats to accompany your beer in the sun. If you’re more into retro video games and good beer, head to Zamenhof at Esperantoplatsen – if you get a bit of tired on the sun, you can go inside and shoot some zombies. Located beneath the remains of Gothenburg’s old fortified city wall, you can easily pop up from Zamenhof for a decent view of the city. Or perhaps boules are your thing? Then Boule Bar has an outdoor pétanque alongside the canal and the iconic Feskekôrka (Fish Church).

Tranquilo

A stretch of bars and restaurants by Saluhallen on Kungstorget, with fairly small outdoor seating areas, but with so many options, you’re likely to find a seat in the sun somewhere! The salad bar on the corner is great for lunch, but Tranquilo is the arguably the pick of the bunch to enjoy a drink in the sun.

Storköket

Storköket, besides Stora Teatern, is a very popular place to hang out, partly because it is very hard to miss! A large outdoor seating area, right in the centre of the city, alongside the canal (once the city moat) it’s located between the small parks of Kungssparken and Trädgardsföreningen. They serve burgers from the locally-well-known burger restaurant The Barn.

Bar Himmel

Sit at the bar, a table or on the steps beneath the Gothenburg Museum of Art and enjoy a drink looking down Kungsportavenyn. Also serving international food, you can often expect a big crowd at Bar Himmel. But with rows of steps as a seating option, there’s room for everyone.

Henriksberg

Sit in the sun and look across the river from the rooftop bar at Henriksberg. Restaurant, bar, pub, nightclub, it’s a large venue with live music. If you get bored of the panoramic view or the sun, head downstairs and enjoy a game of pool at one of many tables.

Linnéterrassen

How about a sunny terrace on one of central Gothenburg’s most beautiful streets? Head to Linnéterrassen for an afternoon drink, an after work or for dinner. When the sun has gone down, you are a short walk to Andra Långgatan and Tredje Långgatan – a real nightlife hotspot.

Taket

TakeT is the rooftop bar of OGBG Comfort Hotel. Very close to the city centre, with an incredible view over the Göta River, it is the perfect place to enjoy a great dose of sunshine with a DJ and drinks. Only open when the sun is out.

The natural choice

Of course you could also head to an island in the archipelago, a lake in the forest or one of the city’s parks. The bars mentioned above are great, but can you light a fire as the sun goes down? Nope, you can’t. You can when you’re out in nature, though. Kumbayaaa to that ma-lord…
