Canadian post-rock giants Godspeed You! Ever since their debut F#A#∞ (1997), Black Emperor has attacked contemporary politics, but perhaps it's only now that the world feels just as uncertain as they've always portrayed it to be. In their disturbing, orchestral works, doom is ever-present and few artists can balance anger, hope, despair and beauty as masterfully as they do. Ambient walls of sound, chaotic crescendos, multimedia innovation, cinematic chamber rock - GY!BE is undoubtedly one of the best and most influential post-rock bands of the 21st century and those who took the time to really listen to their patient builds often remain devoted fans forever.
GY!BE debuted as mentioned with F#A#∞ in 1997 but it was with the majestic double album 'Lift Your Skinny Fists Like Antennas to Heaven' (2000) that the band got their big break. Today a classic that often appears when the best rock records of the 21st century are ranked. After 'Yanqui U.X.O.' (2002) the band took a break but returned triumphantly with 'Hallelujah! Don't Bend! Ascend' and since then three more albums have been released. The latest album 'G ds Pee at State's End' was released in 2021 and received accolades from listeners and critics alike. Next year, the fabled legends of Godspeed You! Black Emperor to Sweden x2 – April 23 at Pustervik in Gothenburg and April 24 at Berns and Stockholm.
