Schism - conversation and movement to reflect on the notion of borders.
The choreographer and artistic director of ilDance, Israel Aloni, is embarking a new project titled Schism. The project explores how the very notion that there are borders impacts the way in which we perceive the world and sequentially, the way in which we perceive ourselves in the world.
We invite you, the public, to partake in a series of gatherings which will be situated within the exhibitions in the Museum of World Culture in Gothenburg, and collectively discuss the notion of mental and physical borders.
The gatherings will include a non hierarchical conversation with the potential to develop collective knowledge, a component of physical-movement exploration and an opportunity to connect as a community.
The physical component will be a short and simple movement series which does not require any previous movement or dance experience and is accessible to people with or without disability.
We will experience some breath and simple movement sequences to reflect on our physical presence and the experience of the world though and with our physical body.
This series is rooted in Aloni’s genuine interest in listening to the thoughts and ideas of the community on the concept of borders as they embark the research process and eventually the creation process of Schism.
Participants can choose to partake in just one or as many of these activities as they want.
Each activity will focus on a particular theme and how the notion of borders manifests in that particular field. Please see the schedule specification below for the exact theme for each activity.
