In 2023, Oceanen presents its very first literary program series, The Queer Gaze.
On a number of occasions, we have invited queer poets and writers to curate an evening on Oceanen's stage based on a theme. The term "The Male Gaze" was coined by Laura Mulvey to describe the gaze that regards women as objects for the pleasure of heterosexual men. As a response to this, "The Female Gaze" also arose, a way to subvert the object and position women as observers. With the program series The Queer Gaze, Oceanen spins on the terms of the queer gaze's deconstruction of all gender-based power dynamics by letting the authors act as subjects and thus tell their stories themselves.
The first poet to curate an evening with us is Nino Mick who together with the musician Alba Omega invites the audience to a stage experiment where the audience's own texts can meet the music in a cross-artistic collision.
Try something no one has tried before.
Or try to repeat something that someone else has done before.
Do you have a hypothesis? Prove or disprove it.
Do you just have your confusion? Good.
