Shakespeare's King Lear - as you've never seen it before
We are in the middle of a system change. The king abdicates responsibility but still claims to retain his power. He has raised his daughters to fight, kill, and lead armies of hundreds of men, but now that he is retiring, he also expects them to show care and nurture him in the fall of his age.
Of course they fail, the family's position of power is lost and the family perishes.
When the play is over, the throne is empty.
Through an investigative form experiment with film, sound and design, we find out what the story of King Lear is really about. In the role of the king, we see Hanna Lekander, a portrayal she was also praised for when she was awarded the Örebro City and County Library Friends' Honorable Mention for this year's theater performance in 2021.
Anna Pettersson, director, actor and doctoral student at the Stockholm School of the Arts, is responsible for directing and editing. Her production of Miss Julie at Strindberg's Intima Teater, with herself as the only performer, received a lot of attention and for it she was awarded TCO's cultural prize, the Swedish Theater Critics' prize and DN's cultural prize. She has previously directed at Gothenburg City Theatre: Alice in Wonderland (2016) and Forbidden Entrance (2019).
The show premiered at Örebro Theater in November 2021.
