Theatre of the Oppressed


During this course participants will be able to immerse in the methods of the Theatre of the Oppressed. Geo Britto, who has been working at the Center of the Theatre of the oppressed (CTO) in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil for 32 years will share his way of working. The 'Theater of the Oppressed' consists several methods which are used in both education and in theater contexts in Sweden.

The basis of the methods is to make power relations in society visible with the aim of changing them. The methods came to Sweden in the 1970s and have since been adapted and used extensively in the education system.

Geo Britto, who teaches the course, has worked for 19 years together with Augusto Boal, the founder of the methods, and at the Theatre of the oppressed since 2009. Geo Britto is a highly experienced teacher who has worked in several areas with the methods in Brazil and abroad.

The course is aimed at teachers, drama educators, social workers, actors, activists, and other people interested in political or social change.

The event is arranged by the Department of Sociology and Work Science, where you can find sociologists alongside researchers and practitioners in conflict resolution and drama pedagogy. It is made possible with funds from the Gustav Adolf Bratt Foundation's lecture fund.

The event is free of charge and will be held in English. When registered for the whole week, it is important that you know that you can participate all days and all the time. Please note that it is NOT enough to sign up by Facebook.

The course will take place in the central part of Gothenburg, exact location will be notified after registration.
