Cheap places to stay in Gothenburg

If you are looking for somewhere to stay that’s central, clean and cheap in Gothenburg – we have three great tips. Ranging from a hotel on an old ship to hostels in the heart of Majorna, the hipster neighbourhood in Gothenburg.

Push the boat out (on a budget) – Barken Viking

Make your stay in Gothenburg memorable and stay on large wooden ship built in 1907. Moored in the heart of town, Barken Viking is right next to the Gothenburg opera house, and offers easy access to shopping, bars and restaurants. Plus it’s a short walk from central station and the Nils Ericsson bus terminal.

With a restaurant, bar and sun terrace – you’ll have a relaxing stay here. The bathrooms are on the small-side but, hey, this is a ship you’re staying on. Single rooms and double rooms from around 600 SEK, with options for shared and private bathroom,

Next to the park – Slottsskogen Hostel

Located in beautiful Linnéstaden with its blend of vibrant culture, varied cuisine and fine architecture, Slottsskogen Hostel is right next door to the large city park it shares its name with. On-site entertainment includes a pool table, a movie night and quiz night. There are also bicycles for hire and a sauna to enjoy – welcome to Sweden!

Their breakfast buffet is available to adults for an additional 85 SEK, children (under 12 years) pay 45 SEK. Choose between rooms with a single bed, multiple beds, apartments and hotel-style accommodation. A bed in a dormitory with up to six beds is around 235 SEK.

Cool part of town – STF Vandrarhem Stigbergsliden

Part of a listed building from the mid-1800s, STF is set in the trendy area of Majorna. And, to fit in with the cool neighbours, it has an eye-catching graffiti mural on its side, exterior wall. This traditional hostel is a short tram ride from Gothenburg Central Station. A well-equipped kitchen, clothes washing machine and drying facilities come in handy for those on longer trips away from home. While the daily buffet breakfast (100 SEK) and outdoor bbq grill will keep everyone (and their stomachs) happy! Dormitory rooms cost around 470 SEK.

Guests here are well placed to jump on the number 11 tram to the southern archipelago ferry terminal. And we can also highly recommend Oceanen, a cool pub with live music, just a short walk down the road.
